Partnering in the Pursuit of Federal Business: Macromedia and Jabber
Breeze Meeting To Be Integrated With Jabber XCP

Macromedia Government, the division of the San Francisco-based software powerhouse that helps federal, state, and local government agencies drive technology and business process transformation, today announced a partnership between Macromedia and Jabber. The aim: to jointly develop and deploy a web conferencing, IM, chat, presence, and awareness solution for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies.

Jabber, Inc. - whose CTO Joe Hildebrand (pictured) drives the company's technical vision of "presence-powered solution" - brings to the partnertship Jabber XCP, an open, interoperable presence and messaging infrastructure delivering a standards-based, best-in-class solution for mission-critical communications. Macromedia brings its powerful, easy-to-use, highly interactive web conferencing and collaboration solution, Breeze Meeting.

Breeze Meeting delivers whiteboard, chat, VoIP, and video capabilities in virtually any web browser and supports a host of government and commercial security features and enterprise scalability. Crucially, it can be implemented behind an agency's firewall to leverage existing network security infrastructure and is U.S. DoD JITC-certified and easily integrated into government installations.

Jabber XCP is a real-time presence and messaging platform allowing people, devices, and applications to instantly communicate and exchange streaming XML data, based upon static and changing presence and availability information. By embedding streaming XML data into a wide variety of services, Jabber XCP extends the benefits of real-time, presence-based communications beyond IM. Jabber XCP is based upon the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), an open protocol natively based in XML and approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a standard for IM and presence technologies. In addition, XMPP is ratified as an emerging standard within the DoD.

"Jabber XCP is a highly intuitive presence and messaging solution that when combined with Breeze will enable warfighters to share critical information in real time to enhance situational awareness and collaboration - ensuring mission success," said Barry Leffew, vice president of government sales, Macromedia. "We are excited to bring together these leading technologies into a single solution for government agencies and look forward to extending the benefits of this integration to federal agencies who are seeking secure, standards-based collaboration solutions."

"The integration of Breeze Meeting with Jabber XCP creates a powerful web conferencing, messaging, and presence solution for federal government customers," said Rick Emery, Jabber's vice president of business development.

The Macromedia-Jabber offerings will allow the DoD and other federal agencies to rapidly deploy a web conferencing, IM, chat, presence, and awareness solution that meets the rigorous standards requirements of the federal government. The first deliverable of the partnership is expected to be available in early 2006 and will enable users to easily launch Breeze Meetings directly from Jabber XCP.
